Weidmüller presents its WMF family of space saving terminal blocks, enabling simple and precise routing and distribution of signals in process engineering plants and power generation facilities. These terminal blocks combine feed-through, fusing and disconnect functions into one single module. They have an integrated shield or PE connection, 3 cross-connection channels and connections to accommodate BLZ connectors. The terminal blocks are equipped with vibration proof and maintenance-free screw connections and extensive marking options for the identification of electrical equipment.
Inductive position measuring systems from Pepperl+Fuchs operate according tot the principle of inductive proximity switches and react to metallic non-magnetic targets. Steel targets of 8 mm or 13 mm are used depending on the size of the measuring system. These targets are led past the sensor with an air gap of up to 6 mm. Thanks to this large reading distance the measuring system is insensitive to guide tolerances of moving machine parts. The sensor is equipped with active temperature compensation which guarantees reproducible position values. This inductive position measuring system achieves...
Precise electric motors are the artificial muscles of robots. maxon motor manufactures such drives. A look at the technology and its practical uses.
Bending an arm, extending a hand, splaying a finger; then swing the whole thing back and forth. Even the rough actions of a seemingly simple activity as waving goodbye call for the movements of various joints. In humans, the muscles move part of the body by carrying out contraction and relaxation. A robot must resort to other techniques: in order to move, it uses electric motors. Often these are direct current, or DC, motors.
DC motors enable...
Displacement measurement in a hydraulic cylinder is a challenging task since a reasonable solution cannot often be easily found. For example, for truck-mounted cranes a load torque limiter is required in order to comply with health and safety regulations. Previously, the crane could only be operated when the hydraulic supports were fully extended. Today, a displacement measurement on the hydraulic cylinder can enable dynamic load torque limitation. Previously, this measurement could only be resolved reliably with some reservations. Micro-Epsilon Messtechnik has provided a completely new approach...
Applications that need to meet stringent outgassing requirements now have more adhesive options than ever.
One of the most common issues addressed by our technical service department nowadays involves the outgassing characteristics of adhesives and related encapsulation and sealing compounds. And that’s understandable because a growing number of high-tech industries have discovered that their products and manufacturing processes can be sensitive to outgassed chemical compounds. As a result, there has been a dramatic upswing in the use of adhesives, encapsulants and sealants that have...
Electronic drive and control equipment plays an important part for control technology in modern plants. There are, however, many applications in which pneumatics can show is advantages, for instance in positioning and testing processes. Proportional valves are available for this. They function with high precision.
Pneumatic regulating systems have been in use in process engineering for a long time. In machine and plant engineering, there are also many applications of such systems. Aircom Pneumatic offers you, in its broad range of pneumatic regulating devices, many components for such...
Vinterteknik is a Swedish company developing snow cannon and irrigation systems. They use Emotron variable speed drives for controlling the pumps included in their solutions, in order to offer smooth operation and reduced energy costs. In this case, the long distance and the difficult terrain between the control station and pumping station offered a challenge. The solution was remote control of the variable speed drives over the Internet.
Systems for supplying snow and water Vinterteknik Sundsvall AB designs, develops and installs complete solutions for supplying artificial snow, including...
Specialty-machine constructors need competent partners in the supplier industry in order to satisfy their Principal in matters regarding safety, high quality and lifetime duration. For more than 10 years, GRAF automation GmbH from Ravensburg has had positive experience with the ACE company in the most varied areas of braking and damping technology. Cooperation involving new-value clamping elements fits seamlessly into this tradition.
"Whether it involves small shock absorbers, industrial gas springs or SLAB mats, the products from ACE have always provided us with 100 percent satisfaction....
Actually, it is not exactly easy to improve a good product. Sometimes it is the small details that make a profound difference. Georg Forster, certified engineer at Supfina Grieshaber from Wolfach in German Baden-Wuerttemberg, says he knows that fromprior experience as well. He is one of the 20 design engineers who develop and improve the systems used for surface treatment and the special Supfina 'superfinishing' process.'Customers appreciate our tailor-made solutions and the high quality of our systems', saysForster. 'For this reason, we focus on the durability and the superiority of the components...
Schaeffler has successfully completed the removal and replacement of a drive end bearing on the pipe storage and deployment reel on a Subsea 7 pipe-lay vessel, the ‘Seven Navica’. The replacement required Schaeffler engineers to conduct a survey on the condition of the bearing before removing the existing bearing from the starboard side of the main reel, and then replacing this with a new bearing, mounted in the existing pedestal housing. The condition of the new bearing was again monitored before being recommissioned.
Subsea 7 is one of the world’s leading subsea engineering and construction...
| Traditionally at Hannover Messe, IEN Europe, its sister magazines Technische Revue and PCN Europe hand over their awards for the most outstanding products/systems of the previous year. The IEN Europe Award 2010 went to Banner Engineering, honoring their innovative easy-to-use vision sensor for quality inspection. IEN: After a very tough year 2009 in terms of economy, statements of leading company representatives on the most recent trade shows, like Hannover Messe or Sensor+Test, clearly indicate that business has definitely been picking up during the first quarter of 2010. Is this also the case with Omega Engineering?
Agger: 2009 was undoubtedly a very tough time for all and we would certainly echo those words, although we detected an upturn far earlier than the first quarter of this year. It seems a strong combination of customer loyalty and our ability to attract new business actually resulted in growth for us during that time, which has continued even stronger in 2010.

Powered by the seemingly recession-proof performance of the mobile phone and consumer electronics segments, the market for Microelectromechanical (MEMS) sensors is set to return to growth in 2010 after two straight years of decline, according to iSuppli Corp. Approaching a point close to the historical peak of 2007, MEMS revenue this year is projected to reach $6.54 billion, up 11.1 percent from $5.88 billion last year. The double-digit expansion predicted for 2010 compares to a decline of 6.8 percent posted in 2009, on top of a 3.6 percent contraction in 2008, iSuppli figures show. The market...
The Schaeffler Group and the Henan University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China have intensified their cooperation with the signing of an initial contract about joint development projects. A delegation from the university lead by Professor Dr. Zhili Zhou, Vice President of the HUST visited Herzogenaurach and Schweinfurt last week in order to familiarize themselves with the company’s central locations. Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, owner of the Schaeffler Group, welcomed the guests on Thursday in Herzogenaurach. The contracts were signed in Schweinfurt on Friday in the presence of Rainer...
EUROMAP, the European association of plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers, has included POWERLINK in the EUROMAP 75 specification, which recommends protocols for data communication with peripheral equipment. It consists of three parts: EUROMAP 75-1 describes profiles for measuring devices, EUROMAP 75-2 covers physical interfaces and connection technology, and EUROMAP 75-3 focuses on the implementation of real-time Ethernet systems, listing POWERLINK and two more protocols. The EUROMAP specifications can be downloaded at www.euromap.org.
Despite the worldwide recession, sales of industrial PCs are showing quite a healthy growth in the Chinese market, according to the results of a latest China-focused market report from IMS Research. Market analyst Alex Hong commented “In order to sustain economic growth, the Chinese Government put forward an economic stimulus plan for 4 trillion Yuan ($586 billion USD), more than 35% of which is planned to be used to develop public infrastructure.“ Infrastructure investments are being spent largely on railway construction, which is becoming the biggest driving force for industrial PC market development....
