Maxon Motor received this year's IEN Europe Award for its brushless DC motor EC 40. The motor, launched in the spring of 2011, has been one of the most popular products of the past 12 months. In the poll for the best product of the year, where participants could choose between five different products, it received more than 30 percent of the total votes.
IEN Europe Editor Jürgen Wirtz handed over the Award on the first day at Hannover Messe 2012 to Albert Bucheli, Head of Marketing Support at Maxon Motor in Sachseln, Switzerland.

Packing 170 W of power in a 40 mm diameter by 80 mm long, palm-sized housing, the DC motor EC 40 features a neodymium permanent magnet, stainless steel housing and welded flanges. It has flat speed/torque gradient of about 3.6 rpm/mNm, 2.1 ms mechanical time constant, 18,000 rpm permissible speed, and 89% efficiency. The ironless winding offers extra quiet running and high stall torque. The motor can be combined with a multitude of components such as encoders and gears as well as the recently introduced AB 32 permanent magnet brake. The latter is designed for operating temperatures of -40 to +100°C. A wide range of compatible controllers, from 1-quadrant and 4-quadrant servo amplifiers to programmable positioning controllers are also available. The motor is a good choice in industrial applications, logistics equipment, mobile robotics, packaging machinery and power tools or aerospace.

The DC motor was launched at last year's Hannover Messe. This year, the Swiss motion technology specialist introduced, among other products, a new series of planetary gearheads, called GP 26 A, a flat motor named EC 60 flat with MILE Encoder and Protection Class IP 54, as well as a new series of servo controllers, the ESCON 50/5.
