Traditional manufacturing meant that the customer relationship usually ended at the point of sale. The Equipment-as-a-Service or EaaS revolution is the process in which production systems, machines or equipment are not sold but instead leased to companies.

This model is enabled by the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) which gives manufacturers the technological means to monitor and maintain machinery and equipment across the globe and at any time of the day or night.

Customers become clients as the responsibility for maintenance, service, repairs and replacement equipment remain with the EaaS provider. The technology, however, reduces a producer’s risk as sensors and software make predictive maintenance and scheduled downtime a reality.
