Online Software Tool calculates product life of linear units

Online Software Tool

Misumi Europe offers an online software tool to calculate the product life of linear units. After selecting the appropriate series of linear units, the users can choose the required unit from the drop-down menus, enter the base length and number of carriages, and specify the assembly requirements. The second step involves entering the service conditions with details such as maximum allowable stroke, the maximum speed and acceleration/deceleration time. The user then receives a summary with the assessment results and a PDF report available to download. In the event of any discrepancies,...

Mineral Insulated Thermocouple available in long cable lengths

Mineral Insulated Thermocouple

The Aeropak Great is a thick wall mineral insulated thermocouple from Okazaki Manufacturing Company providing superior resistance to temperature, vibration, impact, corrosion and abrasion and is suitable for harsh process environments such as incinerators, heat treatment furnaces and industrial ovens, as well as for measuring the temperature of molten metal. The gap between the element and the thick wall sheath is densely filled with high purity magnesium oxide (MgO), which prevents any residual air from penetrating the sheath. This enables faster response times compared to conventional...

Drive Engineering Under High Pressure Miniature drive prevents pressure reflections in hydraulic systems test rig

Drive Engineering Under High Pressure

Pressure pulsations in hydraulic systems generate disturbing noise. At the same time, body and fluid borne sound can place the hydraulic system under load. The main causes of it are hydraulic (positive displacement) pumps. As a result, fuel injection pumps in motor vehicles, for example, must be tested for smooth running in the relevant system.

In the course of the necessary steep pressure rise to as high as 2000 bar, the pressure pulsations proliferate and may be reflected at line ends. Such reflections disturb precise measurement of the actual pump pulsation. A hydraulic damping resistor...

Nothing Runs Without Movement

Nothing Runs Without Movement

Precise electric motors are the artificial muscles of robots. maxon motor manufactures such drives. A look at the technology and its practical uses.

Bending an arm, extending a hand, splaying a finger; then swing the whole thing back and forth. Even the rough actions of a seemingly simple activity as waving goodbye call for the movements of various joints. In humans, the muscles move part of the body by carrying out contraction and relaxation. A robot must resort to other techniques: in order to move, it uses electric motors. Often these are direct current, or DC, motors.

DC motors enable...

Wired or programmed? Changing standards for safety technology

Wired or programmed?

Starting end of December, 2009, machine safety technology must meet the requirements of ISO 13849-1 and IEC 62061. For the first time, there will now be concrete regulations for the configuration and programming of electric and electronic systems in a standard that applies to machine manufacturing. Reason enough to take a closer look at their content and impact.

Electric and electronic safety products are vital components in a machine's safety chain. With the increasing complexity of machine automation and the higher demands on the safety technology with respect to protection against...

Bachmann Electronic Defies Crisis and Continues Success Course in Tough Environment

In the 2009 financial year, Bachmann electronic earned revenues of 52.3 million Euros. Its target was to maintain the previous year's level of 50.4 million Euros (2008) and not drop below it. This target was exceeded by far - revenue was up 3.8 percent over the previous year. This result was achieved primarily due to the stronger sector focus pushed in the last three years and growth into additional geographic markets. Bachmann recorded a significant surge in Asia, where governments are promoting wind energy. Since September 2009, Bachmann electronic has been represented in China with...
