3D printing in companies is booming. Design engineers are printing special components and wear-resistant parts themselves without further ado. However, the projects stand or fall on the quality of the printing material, warns Jonas Burk, Head of Additive Manufacturing at igus. The fact that 3D printing with high-performance polymers from igus is worthwhile is not only proven by the service life tests. Customers can also manufacture their products more economically and faster than injection moulding.
As the robotics sector steadily moves from science fiction to factory floor, a new generation of humanoid robots is emerging to reshape industry, healthcare, and daily life.
The Essen-based company Greenflash, in collaboration with STABL Energy, has implemented an intelligent energy system for their joint customer, the duo Giga Coating and System Trailers in the Emsland region. The combination of photovoltaics and energy storage using recycled electric car batteries is controlled by the new AI-based software Greencore AI from Greenflash. This offers advantages to energy-intensive industrial enterprises such as Giga Coating and System Trailers that were hardly viable on this scale in the past.
At the Bürkert Trade Press Days we spoke with Georg Stawowy, CEO of Bürkert Fluid Control Systems about the concept of a regenerative economy.
Never change a running system – a wise saying in the IT world that is also followed by other disciplines. Nevertheless, it is often worthwhile to challenge existing concepts, as shown by the example of power electronics. Suitably dimensioned thermal management solutions can significantly improve the performance and life of electronic components, together with increased cost-effectiveness.
Resolve Optics Ltd. is a world leader in the design and manufacture of production quantities of radiation resistant lenses and optical products that exactly match your nuclear monitoring application.

Decarbonising industrial activities is key to mitigating climate change – but what happens to the carbon dioxide (CO2) we capture? Permanent sequestration can be difficult and expensive: so what if the captured CO2 could be reused to create a value stream? Whether you choose carbon capture and storage (CCS) or utilisation (CCUS), filtration technology plays a central role in achieving a high-quality end product. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has been the hero in the fight against friction and wear for years. However, there is also the other side of the coin: as a persistent material, PTFE is currently the focus of the discussion about a possible PFAS ban by the ECHA. Even if there is no ban, the motion plastics pioneer igus has good reasons to look for alternatives. With new formulations, extensive tests and adapted production processes, igus already offers its customers a wide range of PTFE-free products. Author: Dr-Ing. Magnus Orth is Head of Material Development and the Technical Centre at igus.
With integrated encoders and IP65 protection
nokra GmbH of Baesweiler produces laser measuring systems for contactless measurement of geometric properties as an integral part of the production process. Since the objects being measured can become quite hot, effective thermal management is essential in such systems. This task is performed by extremely flat liquid-cooled heat sinks from CTX Thermal Solutions.
Protection of cables from chips, dust and splash water in harsh environments
USB-C charging to deliver deliver 240W from a single 1C port
High-torque motor with integrated encoder and optional holding brake
Innovative fluid property detection for precise media detection and comprehensive monitoring of fluid properties
Liquid-cooled heat sinks are used in applications where passive or fan-based cooling solutions are insufficient, but effective cooling is indispensable. However, there are major differences between liquid-cooled heat sinks. The optimal production process for the particular application depends on various factors, such as the desired material and coolant, the specified cooling capacity, and the required number of heat sinks.
Customised solutions with maximum performance, cost-effectiveness and availability
Bio-cable with reduced carbon footprint now in series production
Grasping and plugging cables is child's play! For us humans, yes. However, automated processing of such flexible parts presents robots with considerable challenges. Nevertheless, the potential is huge; in terms of efficiency and quality as well as in terms of relieving employees, for instance when it comes to handling large, heavy cables.
Smart connectors facilitate the remote digital monitoring of installations. TE Connectivity (TE) and tacterion have partnered to develop these cutting-edge components. The first joint steps involve designing outstanding connectors for modular machines used in smart factories. Taking into account early customer feedback, the portfolio will undergo continuous expansion and enhancement.
Today, the majority of consumer goods and everyday items are made from petroleum-based plastics. In Germany alone, around six million tonnes of plastic waste is generated every year. About half of this is mechanically recycled into new materials; the rest is used for energy recovery. The incineration of this waste results in the release of CO2, a greenhouse gas. It is therefore important to keep more plastics in the material cycle for climate and environmental reasons. Eight Fraunhofer Institutes are developing new ideas and processes to significantly improve the mechanical recycling rate of plastics as part of the Waste4Future flagship project.
