Already Europe’s largest telecommunications company, Deutsche Telekom plans to expands its 5G campus networks together with industrial partners to provide an infrastructure for smart factories. The company’s partnership with Endress+Hauser will explore solutions in the field of process automation. Claudia Nemat, member of the Deutsche Telekom Board of Management, Technology and Innovation, stated, “Building a complete 5G ecosystem for industry will accelerate the pace of digitalization in industry.”

Developing smart solutions for measurement and automation technology

Measuring expert Endress+Hauser connects its existing installations to 5G networks via HART gateways and supplies its field devices with mobile communication modules, enabling data sharing in real-time. On the importance of this partnership Matthias Altendorf, CEO of Endress+Hauser, remarked, “5G campus networks open up a second signal path that is independent of the plant’s control system and thus make it possible to tap this potential.”
