The Purdue Model has been evolving to meet modern security requirements. To separate the operational levels of 3 and below from the corporate levels of 4 and above, the model now includes Level 3.5 for a DMZ, data diode, or other boundary controls to isolate OT and IT networks.
This creates a critical data challenge. The widely-used OPC and MQTT protocols cannot maintain a consistent data set very well across a DMZ or data diode. Downstream users may end up with incomplete, delayed, or stale production data. Such inconsistencies can compromise AI analysis and lead to costly decisions based on incorrect information.
Tunnel/mirroring with Cogent DataHub software provides secure connections through DMZs and data diodes while maintaining consistency across every Purdue level. This keeps data consistent from OT to IT and throughout the enterprise. With a consistent, system-wide data set, vital AI analysis, forecasts, and operational decisions remain accurate and trustworthy.
