Introduced by PennEngineering, specialized PEMSTER tooling introduces a newly developed capability to install PEM Type S self-clinching nuts permanently in thin aluminum sheets without the usual need to pre-punch a mounting hole in a separate operation. Together with the fastener, it pierces the mounting hole during the fastener-installation process and yields the associated savings in production time and money. This can be accomplished using manual tooling or automatically with in-die equipment. PEM Type S nuts with thread sizes ¼-20, 5/16-18, M6, and M8 and with a -2 shank length can be installed successfully in aluminum sheets, which must be 1.5 to 2.0 mm in thickness and no harder than HB 79.7 (HRB 40).
