Behind the doors of the Agrozone, lightning is brewing.
This hub of groundbreaking innovation is based in Holland. Here Agrozone artificially generates lightning in an artificial environment to create ozone on-site—ozone that they use to purify water in a natural, green process.
Their systems are cloud-connected—not to rain clouds, but to an IIoT cloud platform that enables Agrozone to better serve their customers and to optimize their process through the smart application of IoT.
What is Ozone? How is it used?
Oxygen molecules (O₂) consist of two oxygen atoms, while ozone (O₃) contains three. Ozone occurs naturally in the environment and can be generated in several ways. During thunderstorms, the extremely high voltages produce ozone, giving the air a distinct fresh scent after a lightning strike. And that is exactly what Agrozone mimics in a controlled environment.
Why are Cloud Connectivity & Remote Access crucial?
Generating ozone through lightning/high voltage is a precise process. Additionally, ozone is very volatile and quickly reverts to oxygen. It is therefore important for Agrozone to calibrate the system at installation—and absolutely crucial that their staff closely monitor the ongoing processes and calibrate the system both when it is installed and when changes occur.
For Agrozone, the UniCloud IIoT platform from Unitronics proved to be the perfect combination—providing both insightful data visualization and remote access capabilities
UniCloud helps them to streamline their calibration process and greatly reduces the need for Agrozone to travel around the world to customer sites.
Agrozone partners with Isotron automation experts; and on their recommendation had based their system control on Unitronics UniStream PLCs for control, so adding UniCloud was a snap. Key functionality includes:
- Remote Monitoring & Dashboards
- Live ozone concentration, voltage, temperature and flow-rate data.
- Intuitive graphs that let both Agrozone engineers and end-users spot trends and anomalies at a glance.
- Automated Alerts & Notifications
- Threshold-based SMS/email triggers for deviations in ozone output or system health.
- The system enables proactive maintenance and avoids unplanned downtime.
- Streamlined Calibration Workflow
- Secure remote access to PLC parameters accelerates adjustments.
- Reduces travel costs and shortens time-to-finish for commissioning on new sites.
Now, by examining data together with their customers, Agrozone has improved both support and customer satisfaction.
Enhanced Sales & Customer Confidence
The new IIoT features provided by UniCloud are attractive to customers, and enable Agrozone's sales team to boost marketing.
Customers now have direct insight into their system’s performance via their mobile devices, and benefit from increased transparency, which improves their peace of mind. Automatic notifications alert them to potential issues, ensuring proactive maintenance.
By pairing Unitronics UniStream PLCs with the UniCloud IIoT platform, Agrozone has turned a natural disinfection process into a remotely managed, data-driven service that maximizes uptime and inspires customer confidence.
