Unveiled at the Ignition Community Conference in September 2026, Ignition 2027 marks another step in the development of Inductive Automation’s industrial application platform. The announcements cover engineering workflows, historical data, visualization and system management. They describe an upcoming release whose final scope remains to be confirmed at launch.
Two Approaches to Artificial Intelligence
Ignition Catalyst will comprise two modules. Catalyst Core will provide contextual assistants within the Designer development environment, while offering diagnostic capabilities to identify configuration errors and operational issues.
Catalyst Agent will enable teams to build and embed custom agents within industrial applications. It will include a chat interface for Perspective and bidirectional capabilities based on the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, to connect agents with tools and data.
Users will retain a choice of models, including external services and locally hosted models through Ollama. These capabilities address two distinct uses: assisting developers and creating applications that incorporate their own agents.
A Historian Developed with Tiger Data
A new Enterprise Historian Module will integrate with TimescaleDB, a database technology designed for time-series workloads. The partnership with Tiger Data will also introduce TimescaleDB for Ignition, an edition sold and supported directly by Inductive Automation.
The stated objective is to accommodate growing data volumes, longer retention periods and increasing analytical demands, with an architecture designed for high availability.
Visualization and Multi-Site Deployment
Perspective will gain sixteen new chart components, including radar and Sankey visualizations. Power Chart will also evolve to simplify tag searching and chart pen management. Native on-screen keyboards are planned for Perspective Workstation.
For deployment, an official Ansible Collection is intended to help standardize installations. Multi-site management and redundancy capabilities will also be expanded. These developments are particularly relevant to teams maintaining multiple applications or replicating configurations across sites.
A native ADS driver is also planned to connect Ignition to Beckhoff TwinCAT controllers without a third-party OPC server. This adds direct equipment connectivity alongside the new application capabilities.
A New Release Cadence
The published roadmap schedules a public beta for November 2026, followed by general availability in February 2027. Annual major releases will be complemented by long-term support versions, with five years of updates announced. Users will therefore be able to select an adoption schedule suited to their operational requirements.
