Making use of Profibus or any other type of copper conductor, the industrial Profibus-SHDSL modem from Phoenix Contact, bridges distances over 1200 meters. Data rates of up to 1.5 Mbit/s are possible. In case of lower data rates, distances of more than 10 km can be reached. The SHDSL device operates protocol-transparent and does not occupy a node in the Profibus system. Errors can be quickly identified thanks to the easily visible LEDs at the front of the modem. The integrated diagnostics and logbook functions and the digital alarm outputs can be freely configured. Point-to-point, linear and star topologies can be implemented. Via the modem's base bus, combinations with other Profibus components can be set up. Structures made up of both copper and fiber-optic cables are also possible.
