Voith Robotics’ “Panda” is the first highly sensitive, self-teaching lightweight robot that can assist people and increase production efficiency significantly. The robot allows customers in various industries to optimize their production through a system supplier approach that also includes customized applications and process integration. Meanwhile the “Panda” is available platform- and manufacturer-independent. This enables users to keep integration costs at a minimum.

A SENSITIVE TOOL

The arm of a “Panda” is inspired by the agility of the human arm and is a very sensitive and versatile power tool. The torque sensors in all seven axes enable the robot to skillfully manipulate objects. With a weight of 18 kilograms, the “Panda” currently has a payload of 3 kilograms and a maximum reach of 855 metric millimeters. The slim control unit can be mounted in server racks or anywhere else and connects the “Panda” to the cloud or existing local shop floor networks. At the same time the hand can grasp quickly with a force of 70 newton and travels with 30 millimeters per second.

AN APP FOR EVERY TASK

Voith Robotics offers a complete package, combining the “Panda” with unique applications in form of modular programs that represent a partial step of a specific task. Each app contains a context menu by which the user is lead through the process parameters interactively. By purchasing a “Panda”, customers get a starter package that contains basic functions such as ‘pick-and-place’. Customers can also procure further customized and individually designed applications. A steading growing number of applications is already available, for example for chip testing, screw driving and the packaging of products in postal boxes.
