Siemens Industry Automation Division designed a fiber optic lucent connector cabling system for the construction of optical networks that consists of single-mode and multi-mode cables. The multi-mode cables use two glass fibers and can span distances of up to 4 kilometers. The single-mode cables use 4 glass fibers and can establish 2 device connections per cable. They achieve ranges of up to 26 kilometers. This cabling system also comprises duplex connectors for the parallel use of both multi-mode and single-mode cables.
