ARM-based single-board computer offer new opportunities for machine vision applications. Industrial camera manufacturer IDS Imaging Development Systems now offers a special Linux driver (alpha version) for the Raspberry Pi Embedded Board for feasibility studies and virtualization purposes. When combined with IDS USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 cameras, simple and inexpensive applications for kiosk systems, for microscopy, or for the ITS sector can be implemented already. The USB 2 uEye XS with its automatic functions is a good addition to the Raspberry Pi. Furthermore it not only offers consumer comfort but also fulfills every criteria of an industrial camera.
