Tape Extension Sensor

Developed by ASM Sensors to extend sensor life in applications that require pulleys, the POSITAPE line of tape extension position sensors has been expanded by the introduction of WB12 series. Constructed with a custom designed stainless steel tape which is coiled on a precision drum, it offers high degree of flexibility and has very smooth surfaces, reducing the risk of icing during cold operating conditions. The integrated tape dust wiper automatically cleans the tape during operation. The housing of the position transducer has a IP67 (IP69K) rating with the appropriate mating connector. The series is available with the industry standard 0.5-10V, 0.5-4.5V and 4-20mA analog outputs as well as SSI, CANopen and CAN SAE J1939 digital outputs. The measurement range is 0 to 3 m with a linearity of ± 0.05% full scale. The sensor also operates under Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2). At its heart there is a non-contact magnetic encoder, which serves as the angle sensor element for the tape drum. The electrical connection is made with bulkhead M12 connector. The rugged design is shock and vibration resistant and makes it suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions.
