The powerMELA drive system from Baumüller is developed for mobile use in collaboration with Sensor-Technik Wiedemann. This drive concept fulfils the requirements for e-mobility through its high-power density, its compact and robust construction and its recovery capabilities. It is made of a combination of a permanent magnet synchronous reluctance motor, embedded magnets, and an integrated four-quadrant converter. The drive system features an innovative cooling concept enabling high-power density and requires minimum installation space. Weighing 300 kg, it is IP6k9k protected and operates in temperatures from -40°C to +85°C.

Possibility to store excess energy through the extensive decoupling of the operating modes

The motor is available in the 50 kW to 140 kW nominal power classes. The latest drive package in the powerMELA drive solution is the powerMELA duo 280. The summation gearbox is provided for commercial vehicles with a power of 160 to 280 kW. It includes two identical powerMELA C140 synchronous machines, a summation gearbox with speed and temperature sensors and a control unit. This retrofit solution is easy to integrate into existing vehicles and easy to swap with a combustion engine.
