RVmagnetics MicroWire sensor is designed for a broad range of applications (civil engineering, electric motors, energy, composites, and more). This sensor is widely used by customers who used to struggle in gathering the physical data they need with the accuracy required.

The MicroWire sensor is as thin as a human hair. It can provide provide measurements of temperature, pressure, tension, torsion, position, electric current, and magnetic field simultaneously. They do that by measuring these with multiple microwires and collecting them with 1 sensing head

Some of the electric motors industries are currently implementing the MicroWire sensor solution. RVmagnetics can develop a sensing system that provides real-time measurements from different parts of electric motors, thus enabling predictive maintenance and structural health monitoring with excellent accuracy – they don’t actually conduct any SHM on the electric motor – but on composites, however, the information provided by their sensors help with the Condition Monitoring for Motors as well. In smart electric motor applications, at the moment current solutions are cost intensive. There is a limited potential in maximizing efficiency through Curie temperature limit. There is no global opportunity to detect temperature from inside of the electric motor. Moreover, power consumption is too high and predictive maintenance has not been achieved.

Significant benefits

The MicroWire sensor measurements are relevant to motors in regard with temperature, vibration, tensile stress, rotation speed, and position of rotor vs stator. Enabling measurement in real-time, it increases efficiency and effectiveness by maximizing the potential of physical limits, while decreasing power consumption. The sensor measures temperature, position, and RPM with one communication interface. It detects faults inside of the motor – and helps optimizing predictive maintenance. In addition, this simple plug & play solution prevents motor burnouts and needs no change in the industrial design. Last, the MicroWire sensors can be utilized in other applications such as safe and smart rechargeable batteries, or smart composite materials.
