Innovative applications for the wind and photovoltaic sectors have established the Varvel Group as a leader in the design and development of high-tech solutions for industry. For the wind sector, in collaboration with other leading manufacturers of high power planetary gearboxes, the Varvel Group boasts consolidated experience in the development of special worm gearboxes for use as first stages in the combined worm-planetary gearboxes needed to control yaw in multi-megawatt wind turbines.

The design process is completed in-house by Varvel's own Research and Development department using the latest gear calculation and modelling software. This phase is followed by the development of gearbox prototypes and the completion of a series of tests, again performed and homologated according to the customer's express requirements. Prototype testing is carried out in Varvel's own Test Department, which boasts all the equipment necessary to operate continuously and in complete safety, minimising prototype development times and the time to market needed for new products.
