WEG's new variable speed drive (VSD) to boost energy efficiency across a broad range of applications was introduced at this year's SPS IPC Drives. Designed to meet the European market's growing demand for inverters - in line with the requirements of the latest ErP Directive on energy efficiency - the new CFW300 variable speed drive (VSD) offers an easy-to-use and cost-effective solution for applications requiring low motor power. As such, it is a great fit for machinery such as small centrifugal pumps, mixers, extruders and fans.

"In line with our commitment to helping businesses across a broad range of industries improve energy efficiency, we have expanded our automation portfolio to become a full-spectrum manufacturer in the area of VSDs," comments Klaus Sirrenberg, Director Low Voltage Products at WEG in Germany. "One of our key targets is achieving further growth across the European automation market and - with this in mind - we have strengthened our sales network and established a state-of-the-art European Automation Centre in Unna. We are also strengthening our switchgear cabinet offering and reinforcing the internal networking between our various business areas."

Among WEG's latest additions to its automation offering is the new CFW500 VSD in a larger frame size (E) - for rated power 18.5 to 22 kW. The company is also unveiling IP55 rated devices to make its CFW701 VSDs suitable for industries such as food and beverage.

Other highlights include the new CFW100 mini drive with RFI filter and the MW500 decentralised inverter in frame size C with rated power from 5.5 to 7.5 kW. In the low-voltage switchgear area, WEG is also expanding its portfolio of motor protective circuit breakers in the MPW series in combination with the launch of new CWB power contactors, and is exhibiting new versions of the CSW family of pushbuttons and pilot lights.

Besides its motor control and protection offering, WEG subsidiary Antriebstechnik KATT Hessen will also be presenting a new member of its ultra-compact UTTW series of water-cooled motors. Equipped with water/air cooling, the new motors are small with minimum frame size, offering a great fit for applications requiring high dynamics and low noise emissions.
